How To Get Here

Colonsay is served by a Caledonian MacBrayne car ferry service (www.calmac.co.uk) from the port of Oban EVERY DAY from March to late October every year. The next published summer timetable will run from 27 March to 18 October 2020.

The winter schedule runs from late October to late March every year. During the winter timetable there is a car ferry four times a week to and from Oban on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

The journey takes two and a quarter hours and is a beautiful one, passing between the mainland and the islands of Kererra and Mull and then sailing south west past the islands of Seil, Luing, Scarba and Jura.

GETTING HERE BY FERRY
From 27 March to 18 October 2020, there is a ferry EVERY DAY from Oban to Colonsay. The ferry departs Oban at:
1630 on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday, Monday
0900 on Tuesday
1645 on Saturday

In addition, on Wednesdays and Saturdays there is a ferry that originates at Kennacraig on the mainland (2 hours from Glasgow) and sails via Port Askaig on ISLAY. So if you wish to travel between Colonsay and Islay/Jura, this is ONLY possible on a Wednesday and a Saturday. This is also provides the only way of visiting Colonsay for a DAY TRIP.

GETTING HERE BY CAR
The journey is around 2 hours from Glasgow to Oban. It is a very scenic drive and passes alongside Loch Lomond and Loch Fyne amongst others. Cars can be hired from Glasgow airport. Cars can travel on the ferry to Colonsay.

GETTING HERE BY TRAIN
There is a train from Glasgow Queen St to Oban and return six times a day. See www.scotrail.co.uk which connect with the ferry service to Colonsay. The Oban train station is immediately adjacent to the ferry terminal.

GETTING HERE BY AIR
There is also an excellent air service that operates from/to Oban (Connel airport) that makes a return flight each week on a Thursday. Details from www.hebrideanair.co.uk. Tel 01236 457777

Oban is a busy town with all the shops and services you could ask for. There is a great open air seafood bar and fish shop on the pier where you can buy fresh crab and langoustines before jumping on the ferry.
