COTTAGE DETAILS

Garvard is perfectly placed for walks to Oronsay or the sandy shores of Ardskenish - an ideal retreat for families, walkers and nature lovers alike.

Set just off the road to the Strand (the tidal causeway to Oronsay), along a half-mile-long rough track, Garvard is a traditional white farmhouse beside its original stone steadings. Nestled within rolling fields, Garvard enjoys incredible views throughout the house of the surrounding countryside and across the sea towards Oronsay and Jura. When the tide is low, you can walk across to visit the ancient priory, or explore the RSPB reserve. This is a haven for birdwatchers, with moorland, seabird and farmland species all found in the surrounding landscape.

A welcoming entrance porch with tiled flooring and coat hooks provides a practical space for boots and outdoor gear, with a window looking out towards the Strand. From here, original bi-fold, wood-panelled doors lead into the heart of the house. Inside, wood floors, coastal grey-blue tones and white panelled doors create a fresh and stylish feel. To the left, the kitchen and dining space is bright and sociable, with coastal artwork, a large dining table, and sliding doors opening onto a sunny patio. The kitchen is well equipped, with ample storage, a walk-in pantry, and an additional fridge.

Back through the hallway, the living room sits opposite — a comfortable and inviting space with three large sofas arranged around a coffee table and multi-fuel stove. A vintage desk and table, bookshelves, and coastal artwork add character, while the windows frame ever-changing views across the strand to Oronsay. Also on the ground floor, a rear hallway leads to a bunk bedroom overlooking the garden, a twin bedroom with views on both sides, and a family bathroom with a bath and shower over.

Upstairs, a wide staircase leads to three further bedrooms. A bright and airy double room features a Velux window above the bed — perfect for stargazing in comfort, under Colonsay’s exceptionally dark skies. This room also benefits from a modern en-suite with a large walk-in shower and light stone tiles. Across the landing, a spacious twin room and a double bedroom feature views of the Strand, pasture and hills — a relaxing landscape of sheep, grassland, sea and distant mountains. The double bedroom has a window seat looking out onto a nearby standing stone on the skyline.

The upstairs bathroom is bright and has spectacular views, with a bay window running the length of the bath — positioned perfectly to take in views of green fields, rolling hills, distant mountains and the sea while you relax.

Outside, there is seating for relaxed meals or morning coffee, with beautiful views across the Strand towards Oronsay and the distant mountains of Jura. The enclosed garden surrounds the house and is laid to lawn, offering a great place for children to play.

7 night minimum. Shorter breaks may be available outside the peak season - please email us to find out more.
