COTTAGE DETAILS

Nestled among the woodland, Kennels is a welcoming, characterful and calming cottage retreat.

Kennels is a peaceful woodland retreat set beside a little stream, which runs along the bottom of the cottage’s lawn and meanders through picturesque reeds. In early spring and autumn, when the leaves fall, the garden opens up to reveal broader countryside views, where gentle hills are dotted with grazing sheep.

South-facing and tucked on the edge of the Colonsay House woodland gardens, the cottage is reached via a short track that leads on up to open farmland and Loch Fada. With just a short walk to the Estate gardens, tearoom and woodland, as well as an ancient standing stone, Kennels offers a wonderfully tranquil setting with nature and history right on your doorstep.

The cottage features a low-walled, enclosed paved terrace, accessed by its own gate or the patio doors from the living area - perfect for alfresco dining and gentle mornings watching birds in the trees. The lawned garden beside the stream is open and unenclosed — something to bear in mind for children and dogs — and the cottage sits beside a quiet track where cars pass occasionally, to reach the Backpackers Lodge.

Inside, Kennels is cosy and bright. The large open-plan sitting/dining/kitchen area is designed for relaxed, sociable evenings, with double doors opening out to the terrace and a multi-fuel stove adding warmth on cooler nights. The kitchen and living area overlook the stream and surrounding woodland, creating a calming space to cook and gather.

The cottage is all on the ground floor level. It sleeps four with one double bedroom and one twin bedroom, alongside a bathroom with a bath and shower over. A separate utility/drying room offers extra convenience, and a ramp access to the house is available via the patio (with a small lip at the patio doors).

Kennels has driveway parking for up to two small to medium-sized cars, along with its own electric vehicle charger.
