COTTAGE DETAILS
A cosy and secluded island retreat, rich in traditional charm and tucked into open pastureland with sweeping views to Jura and Islay.
This secluded cottage is reached via a half-mile rough winding track (best suited to 4x4 vehicles or those with high ground clearance) that climbs through open countryside, with views of the surrounding hills and sea, before opening out on arrival to wide, sweeping vistas across the water to the Isles of Jura and Islay.
Ideally placed within easy reach of the Strand, the cottage offers a great base from which to access to Oronsay at low tide. It is also within walking distance across open countryside to some of Colonsay’s most secluded beaches, with the white sands of Queen’s and Whistler’s Bays each about a half-hour walk away. Nestled on a rolling green hillside amid grazing sheep, the cottage feels wonderfully tucked away and part of the landscape.
This traditional cottage retains charming historic features, including open fires, wood-panelled doors and original light fittings. Panelled throughout and painted in a fresh coastal blue, the interiors feel bright and characterful.
Step through the porch into a bright hallway leading to the wood-panelled sitting room, where windows frame uninterrupted views straight out to sea. In winter, snow-topped mountains rise on the horizon; in spring and summer, the water sparkles deep blue beneath wide island skies.
Perfect for small families, the cottage offers a double bedroom with beautiful sea views and a twin bunk room, sleeping two adults and two children. All accommodation is arranged on one floor, and there is parking for two large cars.
The bathroom includes a bath with shower over and looks out across open farmland. The kitchen, complete with open fire, overlooks fields and the sea beyond — a warm and welcoming space for breakfast or relaxed evening meals.
Without WiFi or television, the cottage encourages a digital detox — mornings with sea views, afternoons wandering the fields, and evenings by the fire.
Surrounded by open grassland, Baleromindubh does not have an enclosed garden; instead, you feel completely part of the landscape. Evenings invite impromptu picnics on the grass, watching the changing light over the sea while children play freely in the open space.

HOLIDAY COTTAGES TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Provisional bookings are confirmed on receipt of a 40% deposit. We strongly recommend that you take out holiday cancellation insurance, as the deposit is non-refundable. Bookings will remain firm provided the deposit is received within 5 days. The balance due must be received twelve weeks prior to the period booked and is non-refundable. A reminder will be sent prior to this date. Bookings cancelled after this time will be charged full rental. Any changes to bookings prior to full payment may incur a £100 administration charge. Payment should be made by debit card or credit card or by electronic bank transfer (BACS). We do not accept cheques as a method of payment. Colonsay Holidays reserves the right to amend confirmed bookings with respect to accommodation and you will be notified of any alterations prior to your arrival. If it is not possible to find alternative accommodation you will be notified at the earliest opportunity and refunded in full. Colonsay Holidays expects properties to be left clean and tidy on departure and reserves the right to charge a minimum of £100 for properties left unclean on departure. Electricity and oil in houses/cottages is charged separately. Your electricity/oil meter will be read on arrival and departure and you will be charged at cost. If you are staying in a house or cottage and would like coal delivered, it must be ordered at the time of final payment. The coal is supplied in 25kg bags. Coal can be pre ordered and delivered for £30 per bag. Once on the island, coal can be purchased from the Service Point. Any purchases from the Colonsay Holidays office once on the island will be delivered and will be charged accordingly. We allow 1 dog per property in the smaller cottages and 2 dogs in the sleep 8 and above houses at a charge of £30/dog/week. We do not allow dogs in the Colonsay House apartments (except Stable and Sgoltaire).
Please note that we require your credit or debit card details on arrival (except for reservations in the Backpackers), so that on departure outstanding bills for electricity, oil, breakages (if any) and any extra cleaning (if required) can be charged to the card given.
