COTTAGE DETAILS

A characterful coastal retreat in a wonderful setting with dunes, forest and coastline on your doorstep and the ever-present sound of the sea below – this is a place to slow your pace.

Tucked into a tiny hamlet of just a few houses at the top of the hill above Kiloran, Uragaig Cottage enjoys a truly special setting. From its elevated position, it overlooks the rugged hills of Balnahard, the sandy dunes above Kiloran Bay and a hillside evergreen forest, with the mountains of Mull visible in the distance. The ever-present sound of waves drifting up from the bay below creates a constant sense of calm.

A small step leads into a welcoming and cosy living space, panelled in soft duck egg blue. Two sofas and a snug chair gather around the open fire, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for evenings in. Coastal artwork lines the walls, and a dining table sits to the rear of the room. Books and games are provided for relaxed nights after a day exploring the island. The compact kitchen has been fully renewed and thoughtfully reconfigured. Though small, it is well equipped for self-catering and enjoys lovely views in both directions — towards the mountains of Mull on one side and the surrounding trees on the other. The downstairs bathroom has also been newly updated and features a walk-in shower.

Also on the ground floor is a comfortable double bedroom, panelled in the same calming duck egg blue, with a charming window seat overlooking Balnahard and the sandy dunes above Kiloran Bay — a perfect spot to sit with a morning coffee or a good book. A very steep ladder-style staircase leads to the first floor (worth bearing in mind for families with younger children). At the top, beneath a Velux window looking out over the treetops, is a snug little seating area. On either side are two twin bedrooms, both with views of the surrounding trees, one also enjoying wonderful views towards the dunes.

Outside, there is parking for one car. A small rear patio provides a peaceful spot for morning coffee, where you can listen to birdsong, waves and the wind moving through the trees. While there is no enclosed garden, the cottage is surrounded by open turf. Spectacular Kiloran Bay is just a short walk down the hill, making it easy to spend long days on one of Colonsay’s most beautiful beaches. Please note that the cottage is accessed via a very rough and steep track, best suited to 4x4 vehicles or cars with high ground clearance.

Uragaig sits right next to Kiloran Bay Cottage, another Colonsay Holidays property, making it an excellent option for larger groups wishing to book two cottages close together while still enjoying their own space and privacy.

HOLIDAY COTTAGES TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Provisional bookings are confirmed on receipt of a 40% deposit. We strongly recommend that you take out holiday cancellation insurance, as the deposit is non-refundable. Bookings will remain firm provided the deposit is received within 5 days. The balance due must be received twelve weeks prior to the period booked and is non-refundable. A reminder will be sent prior to this date. Bookings cancelled after this time will be charged full rental. Any changes to bookings prior to full payment may incur a £100 administration charge. Payment should be made by debit card or credit card or by electronic bank transfer (BACS). We do not accept cheques as a method of payment. Colonsay Holidays reserves the right to amend confirmed bookings with respect to accommodation and you will be notified of any alterations prior to your arrival. If it is not possible to find alternative accommodation you will be notified at the earliest opportunity and refunded in full. Colonsay Holidays expects properties to be left clean and tidy on departure and reserves the right to charge a minimum of £100 for properties left unclean on departure. Electricity and oil in houses/cottages is charged separately. Your electricity/oil meter will be read on arrival and departure and you will be charged at cost. If you are staying in a house or cottage and would like coal delivered, it must be ordered at the time of final payment. The coal is supplied in 25kg bags. Coal can be pre ordered and delivered for £30 per bag. Once on the island, coal can be purchased from the Service Point. Any purchases from the Colonsay Holidays office once on the island will be delivered and will be charged accordingly. We allow 1 dog per property in the smaller cottages and 2 dogs in the sleep 8 and above houses at a charge of £30/dog/week. We do not allow dogs in the Colonsay House apartments (except Stable and Sgoltaire).

Please note that we require your credit or debit card details on arrival (except for reservations in the Backpackers), so that on departure outstanding bills for electricity, oil, breakages (if any) and any extra cleaning (if required) can be charged to the card given.
